I've been giving more attention to Revolt lately. It's still early in spinning up an self-hosted instance but, it does check many of the boxes for a Discord like experience but more open sourced.

@JoshB Which means lots of people aren't going to be happy about this change and will want an alternative platform. I think Revolt will be seeing a bunch of new users if this ever does roll out. I wasn't ever the biggest fan of Discord, I liked Guilded better until they sold out to Roblox...

I've heard about Pixelfed when I was first learning about the Fediverse. Looks like I've got another Fediverse instance to join! I haven't used my Instagram in such a long time, and since I'm not a Mark Zuckerberg or Meta fan, it's great knowing there's a Fediverse alternative.

It provides an area for Bluesky to bring in new users that focus on video content for their social media promotion. You could have a company upload and promote their latest widget with a short video that would attract people to interact on their posts. Similar to how Xtwitter worked, flashy stimulation to corner reactions while keeping people engaged on the platform. The difference is that, Bluesky doesn't penalize you if you post a link to an outside website. Which in my opniion is a much better way to keep users to using your platform.

@DigitalNomad It actually does have a community for support and the members are quite friendly and helpful. The one issue many might come across, is the lower amount of plugins for the software. One thing I did was really look into what I had used before on other forum software and I found that I could drop almost all of the plugins I had used in the past and just go ahead with the vanilla style format of NodeBB. NodeBB's community can be found at community.nodebb.com

Certainly heard of Lemmy but I have taken time to get around it myself. I have been on Reddit for ages, trying out something new would make a lot of sense. Could Lemmy become a real contender for Reddit?
