Could we get some way to filter out the country picks? You sometimes pick subjects that don't interest me, but for most of your posts there is something interesting, even if most of them don't result in a follow. But for the country picks, there is a ton of countries, and I don't have a lot of interest in most of them, so I tend to scroll past them.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the group of people who are interested is much smaller and more local for the country picks than for other subjects.
My first thought was leave them on the web, most people will only be interested in one or two countries, and that's much easier to browse through on the website, where as one person may be interested in many different subjects. But that's probably going to have a lot of people disagree, so some way to easily filter them out.
Maybe a separate account (like the fedi videos one), or simply some keyword filtering?

Hey, thanks for the feedback!
I've done a lot of countries lately to try to catch up on countries that had been left out in the past, but maybe I've been doing too many in a row? I'll try to mix it up more!

I've often thought that one of the more severe problems and omissions of social media is the lack of tagging and categorizing by *subject*.
Like, I'm probably not interested in everything some person has to say about everything. I have interests in particular *topics* much more than particular *individuals*.

That's one of the reasons I did the website at https://fedi.directory so people can go straight to the accounts they like.
Hashtags are a form of tagging, and you can use them inclusively (by following a tag) or exclusively (by filtering out a tag). Unfortunately centralised social media networks are discouraging their use nowadays, but they are a big thing on non-centralised algo-free networks like the Fediverse.

But is there a hashtag we can use to filter out country picks? I didn't see one. -

Sounds like you need a poll - how many want to see country picks and how many don't.If I'm in the minority, a hashtag would be a better option.

If I post about video games that isn't of interest to non-gamers, if I post about crafts that isn't of interest to non-crafters. There will always be people who aren't interested in a topic.
I've recently posted a thread on (for example) the R programming language, and I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people aren't interested in that. The idea of the threads isn't to reach a majority, it's to reach people who are interested and help build that topic's community on here.

Yes, but that's one thread about R. Where as country picks are 200-ish countries (if you do all of them), each with their own thread.I could see the need to add a few more hashtags for huge subjects, but I think you need the people who don't want to see them to tell you those.
Country picks are a large and easily defined subject.
I have no interest in R, but once I scrolled past that, that was it.

Just my opinion is that I don't mind the topics that don't interest me. It's a snapshot into everything that the fediverse has to offer and, there's going to be some that don't peak some's interest while there are those that will.

There are lots of niche subjects I've posted threads about that most people will have no interest in, but that thread's community will be very interested in.
I'm not sure why countries are any different to this?
My to-do list currently has 20 countries left on it, the list as a whole has about 170 topics left on it. I work my way through the to-do list, expand the topic list, and then start again.
