In our latest podcast episode, I explored why rushing people to Mastodon, BlueSky and other Fediverse platforms often backfires. Those massive exodus waves from Twitter/X might feel satisfying, but they tend to overwhelm servers and frustrate newcomers.
Instead, I've found success with a more patient approach:
- Targeting tech-savvy family members first
- Creating visual guides with screenshots
- Matching people to instances based on their interests
- Offering hands-on setup assistance
- Gradually introducing core concepts
I'm curious: What strategies have worked for you when helping friends and family migrate? Have you encountered resistance? What questions do newcomers ask most frequently?
