@nico198X I run Hetzner VPS for my stuff. I have 2 servers, 1 for ozoned.net, the other for firesidefedi.live. The transcoding is what requires the most power. So if you have 2 qualities for viewers, then it'll need like 3-4 CPUs. If you want 20 qualities, then more power.
I run Peertube for my VODs, which is a more powerful server with a S3 Hetzner bucket. Here's a video I did a while ago:

@ozoned yeah, thanks! i think i want to set this up for myself. kind of tired of searching for just the right setup that someone else may or may not be running.
if Peertube does livestreaming, why do you also do Owncast?

@nico198X Peertube is a LOT heavier than Owncast. I originally started just wanting to have a streaming platform and Owncast is INCREDIBLY simple and straightforward to set up. You can literally just run 1 line and it'll install everything and start up. I also find Owncast's interface a bit friendlier than Peertube for Livestreams.
However, Peertube has the advantage that when you livestream to it, it will be able to save the VOD automatically.
