You might have noticed I've been featuring a lot of news feed accounts lately.
These are feeds from official websites converted into a Fediverse format so you can follow them on here. They aren't scraped, these are feeds provided by the sites themselves.
It's not always easy to discover feeds, most sites either don't have feeds or use obscure unobvious addresses. When I discover a useful working feed, I feature it on here so people can follow it easily without having to hunt for it.

In case you're unfamiliar with it, the feeds generally use a technology called RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication.
The idea of RSS is to make it easy for a website's news posts to be shared widely on any platform. Feed posts usually contain links to the website itself, so sharing the feed helps attract visitors to the site and everyone benefits.
RSS has been somewhat overshadowed by social media, but is now making a comeback due to its privacy-friendly non-algorithmic nature.

Some feeds post very frequently. If you find a feed is posting too often and overwhelming your timeline, you might want to use Mastodon's "Lists" feature to put the feed into a separate mini-timeline.
For example a lot of people have a separate List for following news accounts, so they can browse the latest events when they want to without losing track of non-news posts in their main timeline.

@FediFollows Is there a way to follow hashtags with lists? I think the answer is no, but I am asking in case I'm missing something.

No, sorry
But it's one of the most popular requests made to the developers (top 10 out of thousands), so I think they are aware of the demand for it.
