@FediFollows Thanks! This explains why Dr. Ruth Ben-Ghiat's account has 5k followers and (so it appeared) no posts. I thought it was a broken mirror, but that may be the real reason. I appreciate this information!

This issue is being worked on, there is a proposed fix on the Mastodon github but they are fixing the missing posts on threads issue first
There is a way to check what an account really looks like, click ... and select "original page" or "view in browser" or similar options (exact wording depends on which app you're using). This opens the profile on its own server which is always the fullest version.
