    Hey everyone,

I just came across some significant news that will affect many of those who use Skype regularly. Microsoft has announced they're retiring Skype completely in May 2025, pushing users to migrate to Microsoft Teams instead.

According to the official announcement, they're making this change to "streamline their free consumer communications offerings." They mention that Teams usage has grown significantly, with meeting minutes among consumer users increasing 4X over the past two years.

Here's what Skype users need to know:

    1. You can move to Microsoft Teams for free - they're rolling out the ability to sign into Teams using your Skype credentials
    2. Your Skype chats and contacts will automatically appear in Teams
    3. During the transition, Teams users can still communicate with Skype users and vice versa
    4. If you don't want to use Teams, you can export your Skype data including chats, contacts, and call history
    5. Skype will remain available until May 5, 2025
    6. They're discontinuing paid Skype features for new customers

What do you all think about this change? Are you a regular Skype user who will be affected? Do you already use Teams and have any tips for those making the switch?

Personally, I'm surprised in that it took Microsoft this long in order to start phasing out Skype.

This was what a lot of people were talking about in how they didn't think Skype was still around. That falls on Microsoft who had repeatedly didn't push the service, even after they acquired it many years ago. Then Covid came around and Zoom took advantage of the situation to their advantage over Skype.

I don't think I've used Skype in the last 12-15 years.
