Sometimes, I put outrageous prices on pieces I like. This one is $700, and I have two pieces that I priced at $1,700. It's not that I think they deserve such crazy price tags; it's more about I'd rather keep them. I am also afraid of selling my pieces to someone I don't like. Yes, I know, that's totally unprofessional and immature. 1/🧵

Today when I was hanging the diptych I posted earlier, someone I know came to me and said she was thinking about purchasing them. Oh shit. I should have put one of those outrageous price. Now I'm thinking about asking my family members to buy them before she does... Yeah you guessed that right. She''s someone I don't like. As I said, I am immature. 2/🧵
A lot of fellow artists say they don't post anything unrelated to art on social media. They say that's unprofessional. On the contrary, I make sure that I post my social/political views, a lot, often, everywhere. I don't want to patronize anyone/any businesses who support MAGAts, nazis, racists, and anti-LGBTQ+. I don't want them to have my paintings. Call me crazy old lady; I won't change. end/🧵

@Tamami I deeply connect with what you’re saying. I even mentioned it on my blog: if you voted for him my art is not for you.
I truly believe that the best thing going for artists in today’s world is connecting our work to us as creators and what we believe, who we are, etc. In the face of so much artificially generated slop, the future of art is in its human origin. We have to consistently lean into our humanity to differentiate our work, especially to so many who can’t tell the difference. Our beliefs, values, perspectives—that’s what separates us from machines. That’s what makes us artists.
So yes. I am 1000% in agreement. We must—MUST—express our whole selves as artists, especially in today’s world where our humanity is at risk of being lost.
