A few thoughts - the serious downside of unconferences is that everyone attending one has a different experience (by design) this is good for getting small groups of like minded people to take an action but works against the event as a whole building a long lasting, robust community (still possible but the format makes it harder and then takes more facilitation and followup). It also feels like competition
